Privacy policy

Last updated 2026-08-20.

The short version

Backheel has no accounts, no sign-up and no server that stores anything about you. Your streak, your results and today’s guesses are kept in your own browser and are never sent anywhere. We measure how many people visit, in aggregate and without cookies, and that is the whole of it.

What stays on your device

Your progress, your streaks, your statistics and your settings are written to your browser’s local storage. That data does not leave your device, and we cannot read it — there is nowhere for it to be sent to.

Because it is local, it does not follow you. A different browser, a different device or a private window starts from zero. Clearing your browsing data for this site deletes all of it permanently, and nobody can restore it. Statistics can export the whole record as a file first if you want a copy you control.

What we measure

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages people open. It is cookieless: it sets nothing on your device, assigns you no identifier, and does not follow you to other websites. What it reports is aggregate — page views, referring sites, broad country and device type — and it is not tied to an individual.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising trackers or any cross-site tracking. Nothing here builds a profile of you, and there is nothing to sell because nothing is collected that could be sold.

Cookies

Backheel sets no cookies at all. Local storage is used, as described above, but it is not a cookie and is not transmitted with requests. That is why there is no consent banner on this site: there is nothing to consent to.

Images, crests and trademarks

Backheel shows player photographs, club crests, competition logos and national flags for identification only. We claim no ownership of any of them. All rights remain with the clubs, players, competitions and governing bodies they belong to, and nothing here implies any affiliation with or endorsement by them.

If you hold the rights to an image shown on this site and would like it removed, write to [email protected] or use the report form. We will take it down, and you do not need to explain why.

Children

Backheel is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We collect no personal information from anybody, children included, because we collect no personal information at all.

Your rights

There is no account to close, no personal data to request a copy of and nothing to ask us to delete, because none of it exists on our side. The only data connected to you is in your own browser, and clearing your site data removes it entirely and immediately.

Changes to this policy

If what the site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too. A policy that describes something the site no longer does is worse than no policy, so it is updated in the same change as the thing it describes.

Questions about this policy, or about anything else, go to [email protected]. For a wrong answer or a broken puzzle, report it here instead — the puzzle and the player are attached automatically, which makes it far easier to fix.
